My name is Kennedy McKinney and I am 18 years old. I am originally from Boca Raton, FL but grew up in Jacksonville, FL.
I have always had a passion for writing and I am currently working on my B.A. in Journalism at Florida Atlantic University. Go Owls!!!
My love for journalism began in 2013 when I built this website. Here, I publish articles and videos in the lifestyle, fashion, and beauty arena.
In 2014, I interned at my local news station and spent three weeks in the newsroom learning about the news-writing process and how a small story can be transformed into a headliner. In 2015, I was a part of a summer internship with RYSE magazine where I learned the leadership and management side of Journalism.
When I reached high school, I applied for the school newspaper: The Bolles Bugle. I was a staff writer my freshman and sophomore year, my junior year I was elected online editor in chief, and senior year I was elected Editor in Chief of the paper.
As far as writing awards, I received the creative writing award from Hollins University and I am the 2019 Gold Key recipient from the Scholastic Art and Writing awards for my senior writing portfolio. In 2018, I was also accepted into the University of Miami’s Summer Journalism Program.
The past seven years of nonstop writing made it clear that journalism is my calling. I want to be a journalist because I love the idea of notifying the world with news and conducting interviews to get multiple perspectives. I believe that everyone has a story, and I want to be the one to write it.
