Serena Williams Defeats Sister Venus Williams In The US Open

Every family has sibling rivalry, but the Williams sisters give competition a whole new meaning. Tuesday September 8th Venus and Serena Williams walked onto the tennis court with one goal in mind: to win.   The two first went head to head in the second round of the 1998 Australian Open. Venus won 7–6(4), 6–1. Since then they have gone head to head over 20 times professionally and over 100 times for fun or practice.   09hp-serena3-master675   Even though they are both playing the game of tennis the girls had different reasons for wanting the win. Serena, 33, wanted to conquer yet another Grand Slam title in her long term goal to complete the first calendar year Gland Slam since 1988. She had to win four consecutive Grand Slam events, and the U.S. Open marked the fourth.   Venus on the other hand wanted the win to bring herself back into the spotlight. Formerly ranked no. 1 in the world, the older sister has now slipped to No. 23.   I hope this isn’t the end of the famous sibling competition. Serena and Venus sure know how to put on a show and play their hearts out on the court.
