I recently came across an amazing singer/songwriter by the name of Mathew V. At just 19 his voice is an amazing mixture of soul and pop creating a sound that the world hasn't heard for a while. Mathew and I sat down for an interview and not only is his voice amazing, but his story/journey is inspiring as well.
K: Who are your biggest musical inspirations?
M: My biggest musical inspirations are artists like Marina & The Diamonds, Elton John, Jessie J, and Paloma Faith. These are artists who mix amazing vocal talent and innovative artistry, which I appreciate and pull from for my own music.
K: As an “on the rise" artist what is one thing you want the world to know about you when they hear your new single?
M: I just want the audience to listen objectively. If it's something that speaks to them, or strikes a chord, then I hope that they are willing to tag along for this journey.
K: When did your passion for singing start?
M: *Inserts stereotypical answer* I have been singing since birth. Haha. Very standard answer unfortunately but so true!
K: Since you began your musical career what has been your biggest challenge?
M: My biggest challenge so far has been learning to accept and appreciate rejection. Pursuing music on a large scale you end up being turned down a lot. Luckily now I've learned to let rejection motivate me and push me forward, but it wasn't always so easy. (I'm a tad sensitive)
K: What item can you not leave the house without?
M: I cannot leave the house without my phone. I am so far passed the "kids nowadays" stage. I check my e-mails around twice an hour… It's bad
K: Who has been your biggest supporter throughout your journey?
M: My parents. I am so blessed to have parents that let me take the unconventional route of pursuing music. They have given me nothing but encouragement throughout this entire journey and I only hope one day I can truly express my gratitude.
K: Who is your celebrity crush??
M: Oh gosh… How many can I choose? If I had to choose one person it would have to be Demi Lovato. It will probably always be Demi Lovato. I've planned the wedding, you're all invited.
K: What was the first song you ever preformed?
M: The first song I ever performed was "Man! I Feel Like a Woman" by Shania Twain. That was the only song I sang until the age of 5. As you can tell I was pretty reserved.
K: If you had the opportunity to collaborate with another artist who would it be and why?
M: I would love to collaborate with Marina & the Diamonds. I hear such complimentary qualities in our vocal styles and our artistic visions, I think we could make something very cool happen! (In my dreams of course)
On August 4th Mathew will release his new single "Can't Wait To Forget" worldwide. I can't wait (pun intended) until his new single comes out so the whole world can fall in love with his amazing voice. Watch the teaser below and tweet me (https://twitter.com/KennedyMckk) and Mathew (https://twitter.com/MathewVMusic) what you think.
