I’m not usually one to like sequels to movies but in this rare case Grease 2 easily outshines the original mediocre movie. Now before you get all defensive and start wailing about how “Grease is a classic” and how “No one can replace Sandy and Danny!” just hear me out! Grease 2 is 155 minutes of fun with an actual storyline,1001 reasons why a girl doesn't have to change herself for some guy, and way better music and dance numbers. If you like strong female leads, amazing music and dance numbers, a HOT cast, and the fun drama of high school then you will love Grease 2. Unlike Grease, the guy has to work hard to keep the girl, not the other way around. Also, the friends are actually loyal and look out for each other. Oh and they all graduate, unlike Frenchy who, might I add, is STILL in highschool in this sequel. Michelle Pfeiffer and Maxwell Caulfield star in the 1982 version of Grease and bring an entirely new vibe to the original Rydell that had girls RUNNING after guys. Michael Carrington (Maxwell Caulfield), a straight A student and younger cousin of Sandy (the airhead leading lady from the original), is a new student at Rydell High School where he meets and falls in love with Stephanie Zinone (Michelle Pfeiffer), the leader of the Pink Ladies who of course happens to be the recent ex-girlfriend of the lead T-bird, Johnny Nogerelli (Adrian Zmed)… which causes some playful “banter”. First off, I HATE how Sandy worshipped Danny like he was some kind of god. She starts smoking, dressing like a hooker, and drinking just to keep his attention. If she had a lick of sense she would realize that high school boys have the attention span of a dog. If it takes you making yourself less of a person for ONE guy in HIGHSCHOOL you obviously have a self esteem problem. Secondly, Grease promotes premarital sex like it is just going to school. The guys only want the girls for sex and then they are completely done with her. Take Rizzo for instance, as soon as she was unable to be Kinicki's call girl he drops her even if she was pregnant with his baby.It was only when he found out she wasn’t pregnant that he took her back. Rizzo furthers the theme in this movie that a woman’s worth only comes from a man. I laugh when Rizzo wonders why she can’t get a date to prom. Probably because no one wants the latest STD. Next thing, why was it okay for Danny to be so embarrassed of Sandy? Like when he took her out on a date and then hid her from his friends and when he saw her for the first time and acted like he did not know her. WHY WAS THAT OK WITH SANDY?! Was she that blonde? In Grease 2 the guys weren’t embarrassed of the girls, in fact, they admired them and took them out on dates IN PROPER PLACES The next thing on my list is the whole Frenchy character. She was super two-faced during Rizzo’s plan to reunite Sandy and Danny. She knew exactly what would happen if Danny saw Sandy in front of his friends and she let Sandy walk right into it and then afterwards invited her to her house. Oh and then at Frenchy’s house right after she helped Sandy feel better she goes and makes fun of her during the “Sandra Dee” song. Going furthur into the sleepover scene I hated the fact that not drinking and smoking made you lame.. Ok then. In Grease 2, three years later, Frenchy is still in highschool trying to get the last of her credits. That’s why it’s asinine for her, a highschool dropout, to be someone’s favorite character. And before you come at me with any obligations please watch the movie first (it’s on Netflix)… I guarantee you’ll love it.
