An Honest Review On Suicide Squad and Lights Out

Today I hit two movies at the movie theater and one was amazing and one was terrible.

*SPOILERS*

Suicide Squad did not disappoint. Just in case you missed the trailer (that played every other commercial) the movie is about the government taking the most dangerous and incarcerated super villains and using them to defeat an indestructible super entity (played by Cara Delevingne). However, they were picked because the government knew they would most likely die in the process. But what have they got to lose?

Explaining the story line and executing it was spot on, but I did have TWO problems. First off, I loved Margot Robbie's portrayal of Harley Quinn but her accent was beyond fake... I cringe just thinking about it. Also, I didn't like how El Diablo had to die, UNNECCESSARY.

Now that those bad things are out of the way let's talk about the good stuff. Deadshot's (portrayed by Will Smith) story line, an assassin who only wanted the best for his daughter (custody, ivy league schools, etc.) humanized him and helped the audience relate. Will Smith definitely did an amazing job, but to all the people saying that this was his best movie it wasn't. Jared Leto was ahhhmazing as the Joker. I never thought anyone would be able to really sell it again, after Heath Ledger's reign ended, but he gave hope to all of those Joker fans. Margot Robbie was a great Harley Quinn, she really can sell the physcopath character. Although it was twisted, her love for the Joker again humanized her... all she wanted was her "puddin". Now I love Viola Davis and I knew she could be bada$$ from watching her in How To Get Away With Murder, but she was ruthless is this movie and I am waiting for someone to give her an Oscar.

All in All I give Suicide Squad a 9/10 because they have room for improvement, hopefully in the sequel ;). Now onto the movie I wish I didn't see... Light's Out. The movie is about a mental patient Sophie who makes a friend, Diana, while in the asylum. Diana had a skin disease that caused her to be sensitive to light.  Diana died in the hospital but remained attached to Sophie. Fast-forward about twenty years. Sophie has been two kids and two dead husbands... oh and a light sensitive demon attached to her. Sophie's oldest daughter, Rebecca, has moved out and has her own place. Sophie's son, Martin, is still in the house and isn't getting any sleep due to this demon that comes out in the darkness.

The movie is full of jump scares, but I found myself laughing more than I was screaming. The story itself was stupid and since every horror movie today is about demons in order for one to stand out it needs a good plot twist. This movie, no plot twist. The only way that this movie would seriously qualify as a horror movie is if you are deathly afraid of the dark and even then it might not get you. I have to admit the first few jump scares are pretty scary but tire quickly after the third one you won't be scared anymore. The ending is terrible and too easy... the mom kills herself. That is no way to end a movie. This movie lacks mystery and is essentially a cheap thrill.

This movie? A 4/10. The actors were great, no hate to them. I blame the writers for not producing good story.

I wanna hear what you have to say about these two movies. Tell me about your favorite characters, challenge me if you think I'm wrong, and give me your opinions in the comments below.
